A major is a background of Эрнстхаузен, commander of one of divisions of 81th artillery regiment of 97th легкопехотной (by a huntsman) division, in the memoirs describes the offensive of group of armies of "А" in spring of 1942 from Северского Донца to Caucasus, pursuit of avoiding surroundings soviet troops, fights with them - exhausting mountain war and retreat on the Kuban place of arms in 1943. In public consciousness this campaign did not find corresponding attention only because was covered by more scale tragedy of Stalingrad. An author gives an idea about a landscape and people, describes battles, an infantry, artillery, field engineers, hospital attendants and "хиви", operate in that, are "voluntarily helpers" of вермахта, here all unintricate soldier's life - mixture of heroism and faint-heartedness, gleams of boastfulness and humour and front fraternity passes before a reader.
