Christopher Kerr is a hospice doctor. All of his patients die. However, he had the opportunity to care for thousands of patients who, in the face of death, spoke of love and grace. Behind the physical reality of dying are invisible processes that turn out to be extremely life-affirming. These include dreams that are unlike any ordinary dream. Described by patients as "more real than reality," these near-death experiences resurrect past relationships, significant events, and bring up the theme of love and forgiveness. They bring meaning back to life and mark the transition from suffering to comfort and acceptance.
Based on interviews with more than 1,400 patients and more than a decade of data collection, Dr. Kerr shows that near-death dreams and visions are unique phenomena, which make the process of dying more humane. In his book, the author talks about patients who see death not only as the end of life, but also as the final chapter of the transcendence of human nature. Dr. Kerr's book also highlights the benefits of these near-death apparitions for grieving relatives who find comfort in seeing their loved ones depart with a sense of peaceful completion.
