The name of Alexander Alexandrovich Vishnevsky occupies one of the places of honor in the history of medicine. Many of his ideas were innovative, and surgical interventions were the first in the country and in the world. He became one of the founders of cardiovascular surgery in the USSR, contributed to the creation and development of many areas of surgery and related specialties, developed the problems of anesthesia in surgery of the heart, lungs and mediastinum, and nerve trophism in surgery.
During During the Great Patriotic War, Alexander Alexandrovich Vishnevsky was the chief surgeon of the Volkhov and Karelian fronts. He was called the "healer of soldiers' wounds." This book is a literary adaptation of his personal diary, which he regularly kept during 1941-1945.
