Macrosociology is concerned with connecting into an understandable and logically verifiable picture of key points in the changing and chaotic landscape of the real history of mankind. Today, work continues here on the main body of classical theory, dating back to the analytical materialism (but not the ideologies) of Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Max Weber, Joseph Schumpeter and Fernand Braudel. Georgy Derlugyan, Consulting Professor at the RANEPA under the President of the Russian Federation and Professor at New York University, tells how his science is looking for answers to big and interesting questions. Where did so many collapsed "lost" civilizations come from in ancient history, and why did the inhabitants of Easter Island erect giant statues? Why did capitalism break through in the extreme west of Eurasia, and not in the Arab Caliphate? How did a charismatic bureaucracy, unforeseen by Max Weber himself, grow out of the Bolshevik Party?
