An unknown disease has claimed the lives of more than 90% of children in the country. Survivors have acquired strange, frightening abilities. All of them are now kept in concentration camps, depriving them of their freedom, familiar life and individuality.Ruby spent six long years in the camp, but in the end she managed to escape. Joining a group of other fugitives, she searches for the East River, a place where people like her can feel safe. During this long journey, Ruby will have to decide more than once whether freedom is worth the sacrifices that will have to be made for her sake.
