Autobiographical trilogy by Maxim Gorky “Childhood. In people. My Universities”, on which he worked for 10 years, is one of the most significant works of Russian realistic literature of the 20th century. The writer himself called it "the truth that you need to know to the root, in order to root it out of memory, from the soul of a person, from our whole life, heavy and shameful."The trilogy literally comes to life before the reader provincial Russia of the late XIX - early XX century, with its merchants' yards and working suburbs, the Volga ports, a series of colorful characters and an infinite depth of understanding of the very soul of the Russian people, forever balancing on the verge between beautiful and ugly, between crime and holiness.
