The Stevens family, living in one of the suburbs of London, goes on an annual vacation to the sea. A few hours on the train, and they find themselves in the town of Bognor, in a boarding house where they have been coming for twenty years. For two weeks they can escape from everyday life with its worries and responsibilities, feel free, reflect on what is really important to them in life. Sherriff describes his characters with such tenderness and delicacy that the reader begins to appreciate them and the uncomplicated joys of everyday life. The novel, written in 1931, was reprinted and found a new life at the beginning of the 21st century and is now deservedly considered one of the masterpieces of English literature.
