Vienna, early 20th century. Luciusz Kszelewski is a young man from an aristocratic Polish family. Unlike the brothers, who chose traditional occupations for the gentry, he decides to become a doctor - but at the height of his studies in Europe, a world war breaks out. Fascinated by romantic tales of military surgery, he enlists in the army, expecting to be assigned to a well-organized field hospital. But when Luciusz arrives at the place of service in the Carpathian mountains, he discovers that this is not a huge hospital, but a makeshift hospital located in an old wooden church, and even devastated by a typhus epidemic. The surviving medical staff fled, leaving only the nun sister, who is surrounded by a strange mystery. Luciusz turns out to be the only doctor for many miles around, a surgeon, although he has never operated on anyone before. What happens in the place of his service will forever change the life of Luciusz and all the people close to him. “The Winter Soldier is a story of war and medicine, a novel about finding love in the turbulent waves of European history, about the mistakes everyone makes and about the precious chance of redemption.
