In 1926, the OGPU authorities confiscated a diary from Mikhail Bulgakov, eloquently entitled "Under the heel." However, even this did not frighten the author of The Master and Margarita. Until the last years of his life, Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov kept records in which he described his life and the sometimes rather gloomy reality surrounding him.The book includes the writer's diary and documents stored in the OGPU, his letters to I.V. Stalin, G. G. Yagoda, A. M. Gorky and many others. The publication is accompanied by comments by Boris Vadimovich Sokolov, the chief specialist in the work of the writer in Russia.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
