The popular science work “Voyage on the Vega” is dedicated to the first passage of the Northern Sea Route in the history of mankind (1878–1879) and was written by the leader of the expedition that made it. The book includes a description of the journey, including interesting natural science notes, and a brief history of voyages in Arctic waters. A separate chapter is devoted to the Russian pioneers, on whose experience Nordenskiöld relied in many respects in his voyage.
