In post-war London, young writer Juliet is trying to find a plot for a new book, but she doesn't feel like writing about the horrors of the war, and other topics seem either boring or inappropriate. A case comes to the rescue - in the form of a letter from a pig breeder from the island of Guernsey. It turns out that even pigs love to read, and the unknown Dawsey, who got into the hands of a book that once belonged to Juliet, asks for advice on a good bookstore. Guernsey is now tight with books, since the island was occupied by the Germans throughout the war. Thus begins the correspondence, or rather, the romance in letters between Juliet and the islanders. The story of the book club, which has become a front for forbidden meetings of the villagers, captivates and draws her in. The story that began as a plot for a new book will soon turn into her own story... This sad and cheerful novel is about wartime, but it is full of sunshine, light and joy. But who said that death and horror should always come first? Sometimes even they retreat before a sense of humor and optimism. There is a wonderful phrase in the novel that fully applies to itself: "Good books completely discourage bad ones." The Potato Peel Book and Pie Club isn't just a good book, it's probably the best book you'll read in a long, long time.
