Author of remembrances Ганс Якоб Гебелер in the Second world war-time served as the motor mechanic of the second class on the u-boat of U - 505. Його спогади наповнені емоціями, і читач відчуває тягар війни, з яким доводилося стикатися морякам. Особливо вражає опис боротьби екіпажу з не тільки ворогами, але й з власними страхами та технічними проблемами. Книга забезпечена картами, що додає ще більше контексту до розповіді.
