The cycle is dedicated to a little-known but striking episode of medieval history - the rise and fall of the Duchy of Burgundy. The action of the book develops in two eras: the middle of the 15th century, the time of the heyday and fall of the Duchy of Burgundy, and at the beginning of the 16th century, when new forces came to power in Europe. The heroine of the cycle, Margarita, like her mother Maria, the last ruler of the Duchy of Burgundy, goes through a test of love, power, death of loved ones, betrayal and war. The cover design is based on a miniature from the medieval manuscript Le Livre des hystoires du Mirouer du monde (15th century).
