“Night... Comma... Night...” is a collection of stories and short stories written in different years. It allows you to look at V.S. Makanin as a writer who goes against everyone: the sixties, the villagers, the authors of urban prose. He is not like anyone, he is “lagging behind” everyone, separate from everyone (“Lagging behind”). He is concerned with problems that we begin to recognize as problems only after Makanin identifies them: about the destructiveness of the state of “in-between,” when a person cannot make a choice (“Loss”), about the inability of beauty to save the world from war and cruelty ( “Prisoner of the Caucasus”), about the inseparability of man from evil (“The Last Camp”).
