On May 28, 2000, English traveler David Hempleman-Adams set off from Spitsbergen on a flight to the North Pole. He knew that if he survived a week in the air, he would become the first person in history to reach the North Pole in a hot air balloon. David chose to fly in a basket rather than a modern closed capsule out of respect for the three Swedes - Salomon André, Nils Strindberg and Knut Frenkel - who flew to the Pole in the Eagle balloon in 1897. He understood the emotional significance of their expedition, which was distinguished not only by the incredible courage of the participants, but also by a tragic love story that transcended time. Three days after the start of the flight, the Eagle fell. The bodies of the aeronauts were found 33 years later. Near Strindberg's outstretched hand lay his engagement ring, in his pocket was a medallion given by his bride for his birthday, and in the rickety hut made of whalebone was his last letter to his beloved. In The Wind, the reader will find the amazing stories of both journeys: Andre's tragic flight and the unsurpassed achievement of Sir David Hempleman-Adams. The publishing layout of the book is saved in PDF A4 format.
