In this work, the correctness of the version of M.V. was checked. Lomonosov regarding the roots of the Ros-Russian people. The peculiarity of the version lies in its internal contradiction. According to the first postulate, the Rus are Pelasgians, and according to the second, the Varangians-Rus are of the same tribe as the Prussians. As a result of checking the version based on historical, archaeological and toponymic data, it was established that the first postulate may have historical confirmation, while the second should be rejected.
