When the world's first genetically modified humans, Chinese twins Lulu and Nana, were born in 2018, humanity was faced with possibilities that had only recently seemed like science fiction. But along with this, new risks and questions emerged. Can genetic engineering be used to prevent disease? And to choose the eye color or character traits of future children? How far can we go in changing the genome? Reflecting on these questions, Swedish science journalist Torill Kornfelt visited an IVF clinic in South Korea, a cancer hospital in China, a biohacking laboratory in the United States, and met with scientists, patients, public figures and parents who want to change the genes of their children. In his book, Kornfelt talks about the rapid development of genetic technologies taking place right now, the potential consequences of these processes and the new ethical dilemmas that humanity will inevitably face.
