Indie Savage, the daughter of a policeman, the Rock Chick and the owner of a bookstore, has been in love with Lee Nightingale, the former bad guy and current owner of the detective company Nightingale Investigations, since she was five years old. No matter what devious schemes Indy tried to get his attention, Lee never showed interest in her, and Indy eventually gave up. And then Indy's employee, Rosie, loses her bag of diamonds and the bad guys almost kill him. Indy gets caught up in the mess, and Lee is forced to help her. Things get complicated when Lee decides he's interested in Indy, and Indy decides to have nothing to do with Lee. But she can't seem to keep Lee out of her life when she's repeatedly stunned, kidnapped, and cars explode around her (not to mention the corpses she discovers). Indy's best bet is to solve the mystery of the diamonds before Lee does. Lee's job is to keep Indy alive and, at the same time, win back her heart.
