The body of a beautiful young woman is found in a back alley near a trash can. Another drug addict who died of an overdose? Maybe. But pathologist Kat Novak says it's not that simple. The substance that caused death is unlike any known drug. And soon another body with the same signs is found in the same area. In the clenched fist of the first victim, Kat discovers a book of cardboard matches with a phone number scrawled on it. The number belongs to the owner of the pharmaceutical company, Adam Quantrell. Kat begins to suspect that he and his company are involved in the creation of a new terrible killer drug.
