The Harlot's Progress (1733) and The Harlot's Progress (Ms., c. 1778-1780) by Theophilus Cibber are a series of engravings depicting the lives and adventures of two different characters in medieval London. "Progress of the Harlot" tells the story of a young woman with a leading status who plunges into a world of open debauchery and despair. While "Progress of the Prodigal" reflects the adventures of a young man who seeks only the satisfaction of his base and spontaneous desires, money and prosperity. These engravings became known as an allegory of the imperfection and fall of human nature, showing the consequences of leading moral deviations.
