American poet Emily Dickinson died in 1886, leaving behind thousands of unpublished poems. The first collection of her poetry was published four years after her death. “White Shadows” is a novel about the women thanks to whom Emily Dickinson’s poems were published. Preserving the main milestones of the history of this publication, Dominique Fortier delicately interweaves the true and the fictional, plunging us into the fragile and subtle world woven from the images of Dickinson’s poetry. Continuing the story of “Cities on Paper” (an essay about E. Dickinson published in Russia in 2022), the writer creates a book about coping with loss, the power of words, hope and creativity. Dominique Fortier is a writer and translator, born in Quebec in 1972, defended her dissertation in French literature at McGill University, worked for various publishing houses; author of five novels. Winner of the French Gens de mer (Sailors' Prize) and the Governor General's Award, Canada's highest literary award. Her book Cities on Paper was awarded the prestigious Renaudo Prize for essays (2020).
