This is the first novel by the great Simone de Beauvoir - writer, feminist, wife of Jean-Paul Sartre. This novel is not an autobiography, but autobiographical features are certainly present in it. Simone, like her heroine Françoise, was part of a triangle - she and Sartre preached an open relationship, and the book reflected the story of their romance with the Kozakiewicz sisters, one of whom “The Guest” is dedicated to. But lovers of “piquant scenes” will be disappointed: “ Guest" is primarily about love and jealousy, about how to preserve yourself and your inner freedom. Written in the late 30s of the last century, full of the unique atmosphere of pre-war Paris, the novel is still incredibly relevant today and will remain relevant as long as people love, are jealous, find and betray each other.
