The basis of this book was “Lectures on the history of the late Middle Ages” by the prominent Russian historian, writer and public figure of the 19th century Timofey Nikolaevich Granovsky, which he read in the 1849/50 academic year to third-year students of the historical-philological and second-year law faculties of Moscow University . The wide coverage of topics and issues, the approach, which was in many ways ahead of its time, have made them relevant for the past century and a half.
