Historian Arcadios Putnik is writing a book in honor of the 80th anniversary of the great Leader, who for many years has been leading the small but beautiful country of Krasnogor to prosperity and national well-being. However, as he gets acquainted with the secret archives, Arcadios discovers previously unknown pages in the life of the Leader and people close to him... Is the great Leader really that great? Is the world he built so beautiful? History does not know the subjunctive mood. But literature and philosophy know and can ask “What would happen if?” What if one of the Eastern European countries had taken a different path in the second half of the 20th century? What if leaders came to power who lived solely for the sake of lofty ideas and wanted to build a new, perfect society of people for whom the common good would be more important than their own well-being? What if this country managed to maintain its independence from the political forces of both the West and the East? And what would be the price for this ideal world? Is the person ready to pay it?
