Діаспар, місто, яке стало останнім притулком людства, вражає своєю архітектурою і технологіями, які, здавалося б, можуть забезпечити безсмертя. Кларк ставить перед читачем важливі питання про ідентичність, страх перед невідомим і бажання пізнати світ. Хоча переклад тексту має деякі недоліки, це не заважає насолоджуватися захоплюючим сюжетом і глибокими роздумами.
