The main character of this book is the Kremlin with its present and past, which has not gone anywhere, with the ghosts that inhabit the Kremlin buildings, with the fear that has long permeated the old walls and which to this day remains in the already renovated offices. The heroes of the book are the bosses and ordinary officials working in the Kremlin in the nineties, under Yeltsin, their friends, relatives, as well as adventurers, former security officers, and, of course, the ghosts of Lenin, Stalin, other rulers of the USSR, Inessa Armand, Stalin’s wife Nadezhda Alluyeva. The novel juxtaposes meanness and nobility, good and evil, colliding against the backdrop of dramatic moments in our recent history. The action of the novel takes place on the eve, during and shortly after the events of 1993, which ended in the shooting of the White House, as well as in the thirties, fifties, and eighties of the 20th century. The genre of the book is a novel in stories, each of which has a plot completeness, while being part of the whole works.
