A 2-volume biography of P. B. Struve written by a famous American historian is being published in Russia for the first time. According to experts, this is the most interesting and important work by R. Pipes on the history of political thought in Russia in the 20th century. In the first volume, relying on archival materials, historical and memoir literature, the author talks about Struve’s life and work before the October events of 1905, when Nicholas II signed the famous Manifesto, which proclaimed civil rights and the creation of the State Duma in Russia. The second volume is devoted to the events and circumstances of Struve’s life at home, and then in exile until his death in 1944. According to Pipes, sharing the ideas of freedom and democracy, as a politician, Struve always remained a national thinker and patriot.
