The ancient miraculous icon “Three Hands,” which helped his wife Natalya fight the disease, disappeared from the house of a major official of the local administration, Khromov. Almost immediately it became known that the theft was committed by the unlucky son of the cook Daria, Nikolai, a drunkard and a gambler. When the police came to arrest Nikolai, they found his body.
