The novel by the German writer G. Schumacher is dedicated to one of the most tragic female figures in world history - the Jewish princess Berenice, who fell in love with the Roman commander and statesman Titus. Their relationship caused waves of criticism, and Titus reacted harshly to spiteful critics. Titus fell to become the conqueror of Judea and the executioner of a popular uprising in the country, for which curses also fell on the name of the princess, both from the Romans and the Jews.
