Книга "Знак і порожнеча" вразила мене своєю глибиною і складністю персонажів. Клод, француз, який живе в Дубліні, стає символом багатьох людей, які намагаються знайти своє місце в світі, застрягнувши між рутиною офісного життя і прагненням до творчості. Взаємини між Клодом і Полом Мюрреєм розвиваються несподівано, і читачу стає цікаво, чим же все це закінчиться. Пол, здавалося б, є шансом для Клода вирватися з нудного існування, але його справжні наміри виявляються зовсім іншими. Ця книга не лише про стосунки, але й про пошуки справжнього "я", про те, як легко можна загубитися в світі матеріальних цінностей.
