Umberto Eco is the most famous Italian writer, the author of the world bestsellers “The Name of the Rose” and “Foucault’s Pendulum”, a semiotics specialist, cultural historian, linguist, winner of major awards. His works have been translated into forty languages. “Cartons of Minerva” is a collection of publications in the Milanese magazine Espresso, where the professor has written a weekly column since 1985. The author says that the title of the book is associated with the “Minerva” matches, which he always has on hand, and on the back of those cards he writes his shorthand notes, responding to big and small events in the world.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
