One sultry August day, a young architect named Nikolai had the imprudence to walk past a building in the center of Kyiv, which, for a reason incomprehensible to the main character, was changing its appearance right before his eyes, taking on different architectural styles. Being very puzzled, Nikolai goes inside this unusual building and learns from the concierge a number of equally strange information about this building, namely, that this building does not have any creator at all, that it exists only in plans and that the further fate of this building directly depends on the one who will become its architect.
