Surprisingly, this fantastic story, full of tragedy and irrevocable losses, began in the real world, in the distant East Indies, and maybe even on the way to it - near the kindest cape in the world - the Cape of Good Hope. There it will end happily, even after three hundred years, thanks to the Russian girl Katya with the Dutch surname Blank. That is why the novel intertwines three storylines and the fates of people from three countries - Russia, the Netherlands and Indonesia. “Living Shadows of Wayang” is a modern novel based on real historical events, but with fanciful assumptions, gravitating not purely towards entertainment, but towards intellectual. It contains a lot of interesting and even shocking information; it provides not only a description of life in several temporal and spatial directions, but also its understanding. The theme - “crime and punishment” (retribution for acts against human freedom) is revealed through the example of the main characters serving the Dutch East India Company, which for 400 years was the main instrument of European colonial policy. The idea of the work is based on the idea that in general The world we live in is still a world of law, justice and order. This is stated by one of the most important concepts of philosophy - the concept of justice. This is evidenced by the ancient sacred texts on which Christianity and Hinduism, Sanatana Dharma are built. Reading the novel becomes fascinating thanks to the use of expressive means of the Russian language, as well as such artistic techniques as historical metafiction, pastiche, fabulation, flash back, surrealism. Slavic and Balinese mythology, Dutch legends, Russian folklore. The novel is intended for the widest readership, without age restrictions. But especially for those who are interested in history and adventure, who love to travel to overseas countries. It will be interesting for readers not only to empathize with the characters, but also to learn a lot about the distant, almost legendary, Dutch East Indies and its modern little piece of land - the world famous tourist island of Bali (in 2013 alone, it was visited by 3.28 million tourists from all countries of the world); about the origins of friendship between the Russian and Dutch peoples thanks to the Tsar of All Rus', and later to the All-Russian Emperor Peter the Great. The novel “Living Shadows of Wayang” is difficult to compare with other works, since the lines of Russia are traced in it - Holland, Holland - East Indies and Russia - East Indies (Indonesia), while other authors usually reveal one of these directions. The Dutchman Eduard Douwes Dekker (Multatuli) and the Englishman Joseph Conrad (more precisely, a Pole born in the Russian Empire) wrote about Dutch colonial oppression. Sergei Shevinsky’s novel “East India” (1933) is widely known, where this topic is also revealed, but there is no connection with Russia. Two modern books about Bali have been published - Elizabeth Gilbert's “Eat. Pray. Love" and Roman Svetlov's "Bali. Six acres in paradise”, they describe modern events in Bali without excursions into history. The names of people, as well as heroes of folk epics, geographical names and names of works of art, cultural monuments, religious temples are given in the native language in footnotes, which makes it easier for readers to perceive unfamiliar words, and at the same time provides more extensive information about them, and in the future will provide invaluable assistance to the translator into other languages. According to the author, the book can be translated into English, Indonesian, Dutch and other languages.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program.
