This is a poem about what will happen in the near future. Mars has been waiting for us for a very long time, and only now are we ready to send pioneers to it. It will be difficult at first. It's hard to say goodbye when you know you won't come back. People who do this will become heroes without fame and may die without ever seeing the Earth again. The poem is not about technology, but about people who do not change as quickly as the world around them. All the same colonists of the New World, having replaced caravels with huge rockets, are again heading into the unknown.
