Wilhelm Adam was one of the most knowledgeable officers of the 6th Army, since he served as aide-de-camp to its commander, Field Marshal Paulus. Adam was not just a witness, but also a participant in making the most difficult decisions. Together with Paulus, he surrendered to the Red Army, and together with him he joined the National Committee of Free Germany. His memoirs are one of the most important documents telling about the death of German troops at Stalingrad.
