So begins the surreal tale of an elderly man who is left alone in an empty world after everyone else on Earth has killed themselves for no particular reason. Searching for other survivors, he drifts on a houseboat until he reaches a mysterious structure in the middle of the ocean. This is a building that looks like two giant naked women connected to each other. And from the illuminated window, wafting from the ghostly wind, comes the sound of hundreds of meowing patchwork cats. Sea of the Patchwork Cats is a sad tale in the quiet ashes of the human race. A must read for fans of Mellick's prose, as well as for fans of The Twilight Zone.
