Lane Harmon is the first assistant to a famous New York interior designer. She works only with the richest and most ambitious clients, such as the family of stock tycoon Parker Bennett. Bennett himself, convicted two years ago of building a financial “pyramid”, disappeared without a trace, either committing suicide or faking it. His wife and son have moved to a more modest place and now want to decorate a new apartment. Lane begins work on the interior. She doesn't yet know that the FBI is going to use her position in the house. The feds do not believe Bennett committed suicide and believe that his family knows the whereabouts of the criminal, but is covering for him.
