War underground is not such a fantasy: a similar method of warfare (underground mine), both with and without the use of explosives, has been widely known for at least millennia. People have been fighting underground for a long time. “Mines,” that is, underground passages, were used in biblical times, including for the collapse of fortress walls. The Turks were the first to use a gunpowder mine in 1453 during the siege of Constantinople. And in subsequent times, underground mine warfare was widely used by different countries. In antiquity and the Middle Ages, undermining was one of the main methods of siege. And in the First World War, the “trench” underground war was waged on a hitherto unprecedented scale and ferocity. Not only individual fortifications were lifted into the air, but also entire sections of the front! And later, mine weapons were used, and sometimes quite widely, for example.
