Автор майстерно створює атмосферу напруги та небезпеки, що панує на вулицях міста. Персонажі, зокрема детектив Гереон Рат та його дівчина Чарлі, вражають своєю багатогранністю та емоційною глибиною. Сюжет тримає в напрузі до останньої сторінки, а несподівані повороти подій не дають змоги відволіктися.
