The City and the Wooden Tower is a satirical allegory written by Sir Roger L'Estrange in 1680. The book compares two opposite social groups - burghers (Citt) and peasants (Bumpkin). The author uses humor and sharp derision to show the difference in attitudes, behavior and values of these two classes. In addition, the work deals with the themes of power, corruption and morality, which makes it relevant even today. "The City and the Wooden Gate" remains an important literary work that prompts readers to think about social inequalities and human flaws.
