The Golden Ass by Apuleius, a literary work of the decline of antiquity, has long become one of the favorite topics for symbolic and esoteric analysis. And this is understandable, because it describes the process of transforming a person into an animal and the path of reverse transformation from an animal into not even just a person, but a dedicated priest of Isis. According to Jung's spiritual daughter Marie-Louise von Franz, Apuleius's novel symbolically shows the process of individuation. The book contains Erich Neumann's work “Cupid and Psyche” as an appendix. This work reveals a number of subtleties directly related to the individuation of a woman.
