In the novel “20,000 Years Under Ice,” the classic of Hungarian literature, novelist and playwright Mor Jokai (1825–1904), with inexhaustible imagination, desperately parodies “Robinson Crusoe,” “Moby Dick” and the novels of J. Verne. This is the story of an inventive sailor forgotten at the North Pole, who tames polar bears, opens a grandiose system of caves with cemeteries of antediluvian animals, revives primitive people and, finally, becomes the root cause of a new biological evolution.
