“The Book of Countries” is a historical and geographical work by the outstanding Arab geographer and historian al-Ya'qubi, written on the basis of the author's own observations and inquiries during his numerous travels. Gives a picture of the life of the Caliphate in the middle of the 7th - 9th centuries. in political, economic, administrative and cultural aspects. Al-Ya'qubi showed particular interest in distant provinces and large cities. He laid the foundation for the genre of “al-masalik wa-l-mamalik” (“paths and kingdoms”). Al-Ya'qubi's "Book of Countries" is a first-class source of information about that distant era.
