The author of the book, Natalya Romanovna Guseva, is an ethnographer and religious scholar who devoted her life to the study of India. She not only visited this country several times, but also worked there for three years, having the opportunity to collect rich material on the spot for her research. She has written over 150 works on the culture of India, including such monographs as “Hinduism”, “Jainism”, “Artistic Crafts of India”, “Rajasthans”, “Slavs and Aryas”. The book tells about those aspects of the life of the Indian people , which are still poorly covered in our domestic literature. The reader learns about the life of the urban and rural population of India, about family life, religious holidays, beliefs and ancient traditions, as well as about the origin of the Aryans and their fate after coming to India from the lands of Eastern Europe. The book is illustrated with drawings and photographs, most of which are the author's.N. R.
