The cycle of stories by Ivan Pogonin “Detective Odyssey” tells about the life and service of police warden Osip Tarakanov. The series begins with a story about how in 1906, at the height of the first Russian revolution, nineteen-year-old Tarakanov investigates his first case. The incident takes place in the county town of Kashira, Tula province. A postal and telegraph office was attacked, a guard was killed, and a large sum of money was stolen. Within 24 hours, Tarakanov solves the robbery, but the gang leader manages to escape.
