"Petersburg" is a novel by the Russian writer Andriy Bely, published in 1916. The book tells about the attempts of the terrorist Nikolai Apollonovych Apollonov to infiltrate a high-ranking official in the Russian government, a rich merchant who at first glance is an ordinary bourgeois. In the novel, Bely considers not only social issues, but also the psychology of the main character, raising topics of spiritual resolution of life's contradictions. The book "Petersburg" is an excellent example of symbolist prose that explores the complexity of human existence and the social and political realities of the beginning of the 20th century.
