The sixth volume of the Lanny Budd Saga was published in 1945 and covers the period 1939 - 1940. From Munich to Hitler's occupation of Paris. All this time, Lanny Budd provides Franklin Roosevelt with advanced information about upcoming events. The need for constant meetings with Hitler, Goering and Hess gives him agony. He is lonely and cannot reveal his true thoughts to anyone. However, he meets the woman who will later become his wife. In between, Lanny organizes the theft of an important piece of aviation equipment from Goering and participates in the evacuation of English soldiers from Dunkirk. And his thoughts are torn between three women. The choice has not yet been made. The volume consists of eight books and thirty-two chapters.
