Twins Phil and Diana and their mother Glass arrived from overseas and settled in the Visible estate they had inherited. They are the subject of discussion and condemnation throughout the area. There are a lot of reasons: Glass is now only thirty-four, and her children are seventeen; Phil had been friends for a long time with a strange boy with the look of a serial killer; Diana once wounded a local bully named Oblomok in the arm, and how - with an arrow fired from a bow! But gradually Phil understands: every resident of this small town has their own secrets, their own problems, their own reasons for becoming an outcast. Day after day, the veils of secrets are removed, and the young man sees the surrounding reality more and more complex and ambiguous. Perhaps accepting this ambiguity is growing up? Or is growing up a matter of figuring out where the center of your Universe is? Andreas Steinhöfel’s novel “At the Center of the Universe,” published in Germany in 1998, became a young adult classic in the writer’s homeland - a text with which every thinking reader is familiar 18– 25 years old. The “YA” (young adults) series continues the collection “Generation www.”, beloved by CompassGuide readers. In the early 2010s, she became widely known for her acclaimed novels such as Tell Little Red Riding Hood by Beate Teresa Hanicki and Playing Dead by Stefan Kasta. YA brings together books that could only be written today—edgy, irreverent, challenging novels for readers 16 and older. The series was designed by the famous designer, co-founder of the Typomania festival Alexander Vasin. Andreas Steinhöfel (born 1962) is the winner of many prestigious international awards, including the Erich Kästner Prize. His works are included in the Honor List of the International Board of Children's Literature (IBBY). And the novel “At the Center of the Universe” was appreciated by the youth jury in Austria; it was also awarded the “Buxtehud Bull” prize, which was received over the years by John Green, John Boyne, Gudrun Pausewang and other authors.
