The historical novel “Spitamen” by the prominent Uzbek writer Maksud Kariev tells the story of centuries-old events that took place on the land of Sogdiana (the territory located between the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers) in the 4th–3rd centuries. BC e. From the first day of the invasion of Alexander the Great's troops into Central Asia, a wide wave of popular resistance to the invaders arose. The reader will become an accomplice to long-standing events and learn about the complex and dramatic fate of the talented commander Spitamen, who led the popular uprising and, in the battle of the Politemet (Zerafshan) River, managed to inflict the first serious defeat on Alexander the Great, who was previously considered invincible.

Книга "Спітамен" Максуда Карієва - це справжнє відкриття для всіх, хто цікавиться історією та культурою Середньої Азії. Автор майстерно переносить читача в епоху IV–III ст. до зв. е., коли земля Согдіани переживала важкі часи під час вторгнення Олександра Македонського. Досліджуючи долю Спітамена, талановитого полководця, читач стає свідком драматичних подій, які формували історію цієї частини світу. Описані битви, стратегії і народний опір викликають захоплення і гордість за героїзм предків. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має недоліки, загальна якість книги та її зміст компенсують ці моменти. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто цінує глибокі історичні сюжети та хоче дізнатися більше про боротьбу за свободу і незалежність
