Ребека Уест майстерно передає атмосферу часу, в якому відбуваються події, і глибоко досліджує внутрішній світ своїх персонажів. Історія Клер Обрі та її родини, які намагаються знайти своє місце в світі після зникнення чоловіка, наповнена емоціями, боротьбою та надією. Кожен персонаж, від молодших сестер до старшої Корделії, має свою унікальну історію, що робить їх близькими та зрозумілими. Я була вражена, як автор змогла поєднати особисті драми з великими історичними подіями, такими як Перша світова війна, що надає книзі ще більшої ваги.
